Our Founding Story

Śrīla Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura published Śrī Gaurāṅga Samāja in Śrī Sajjana Toṣaṇī (1881). He described a vision of Vaiṣṇava community organization for every village — a Grāmīṇa Mahājana Maṇḍalī, a community of noble souls rooted in the village. VGSF's name is a direct claim of lineage from this 145-year-old vision.

Nabadwip is the birthplace of Śrī Kṛṣṇa Caitanya Mahāprabhu (1486 CE). The tradition he initiated — the Gauḍīya Vaiṣṇava tradition — teaches that every human being, regardless of birth or circumstance, carries a capacity for transformation, love, and service. This is not theological abstraction to us. It is the ground on which we work.

India's pre-colonial civilization was built on constitutional knowledge institutions — Nālandā (7 centuries), Vikramaśīlā, Takṣaśilā. Their destruction severed living transmission lineages. VGSF understands itself as part of rebuilding those lineages — not as historical recreation, but as living institutions for the present era.
